Past Events - Summer 2021

In Summer 2021, Emily (one of our volunteers) ran self-directed study groups for students interested in studying Algebra

Algebra I – Coordinator: Emily Z

Hello, I am Emily, a grade 8 student studying Algebra 1– the equivalent of Ontario grade 9 and 10 math. I am hosting a study group with the goal of learning new math concepts, improving self-learning skills, and developing effective communication skills. In this 4 month study group, we will meet twice a week for 1 hour to practice and discuss Algebra 1 problems and concepts. These sessions will be held on a Discord server and the Algebra 1 textbook will be available on the server as well. Students will be learning this book at their own pace and we will have discussions about the concepts from the text.
I welcome all interested students to join! Information on how to join the server will be provided upon registration.

Past Events - Summer 2020

Biological Sciences

Seminar sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting July 7 and ending August 28.
Beginner Sessions will run from 3:00-3:50pm EST
Intermediate Sessions will run from 4:00-4:50pm EST

*Both beginner and intermediate series cover the same content. However, the intermediate series goes into more specific (and sometimes abstract) details on topics. These details may be difficult to grasp for students who are less familiar with biology.
I would recommend students entering grades 9 and above to take the intermediate series.

This seminar series covers a variety of topics in molecular biology and the foundational knowledge for understanding some of the many applications of biology, more specifically in modern medicine and regenerative medicine! Structure-wise, for the first few weeks, seminars will cover foundational knowledge so that we can delve into more complex topics later on. Throughout this series, we will also be exploring different careers in Biology.

Seminar sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting July 14 and ending August 28.
Sessions will run from 1:00-1:45 pm EST

Reading non-fiction texts (research papers, articles, etc.) is an essential skill needed for post-secondary study in all subjects. In this course, we will read non-fiction texts across a range of subjects and discuss strategies for effective reading. Later on, we will delve into academic writing and writing conventions for different text types. Research writing is applicable for all subjects, however we can focus on specific fields upon participants’ requests.
